Age + Action Conference Summary

Neal had the opportunity to participate in the National Council on Aging’s Age + Action conference this June.  Age+Action is the premiere national conference focused on ensuring every person’s right to age with their best possible health and economic security. The event brought together 900+ professionals from across the country who are dedicated to making aging well possible for all of us. Attendees included members and grantees of NCOA’s National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC), Center for Healthy Aging, and Center for Benefits Access.

In addition to the HHS’s Agency for Community Living Falls Prevention and Chronic Disease Self-Management Education—(Better Choices Better Health®(BCBH) digitally and in-person CDSMP), grantees from across the U.S. (state and local departments on aging, public health, Area Agencies on Aging, and other community-based organizations), members of the National Institute for Senior Centers and Benefits Enrollment Centers, were all represented at the conference. Neal led discussions about Canary Health’s digital Better Choices, Better Health® program with current and prospective partners.  He was also joined by Ricardo Johnson Sr. Director, Healthworx at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, for their panel: Digital Therapeutics: New Kids on the Block with Power Equal to a Medication. The presentation introduced participants to the emerging field of digital therapeutics and how community-based organizations (CBOs) can use them to improve outcomes for adults with chronic diseases. They also provided participants with a view from a health plan regarding how plans consider when and how to use internet interventions to improve health outcomes.

We’re reminded about the importance of collaboration and partnership.  It takes a true movement with so many involved to make the dramatic, truly transformational improvements we’re all working towards in health and wellbeing.  As always, we’re thankful for being a part of this great work, and to NCOA for its leadership in the field.
