Canary Health® Partners with CaringBridge®
In an effort to reach more caregivers, Canary Health’s caregiver focused Building Better Caregivers®(BBC) program and CaringBridge®, a free, personal, protected communications platform that provides a simple solution for updating your community on the loved one in your care, have teamed up to reach more veteran caregivers to deliver the tools and support they need to care for their veteran.
“With a current shortage of healthcare workers, an aging baby boomer population, and currently over 53 million unpaid caregivers nationwide (21% of the US population), this is a critical group that needs our support. By teaming up with organizations like CaringBridge, we can reach more veteran caregivers to give them the tools and support they need and deserve,” said Katy Plant, General Manager, Canary Health.
As a family caregiver, confronting an illness or an injury is one of the most demanding, isolating things you can do. Family and friends are an amazing source of support, but constantly sharing updates is impractical and can be emotionally draining. That’s where CaringBridge comes in. CaringBridge is a free, personal, protected communications platform with simple tools for family caregivers to share health updates, and for their community to offer support and encouragement when it matters most.
Since 2013, Canary Health® has worked to reach unpaid caregivers to provide the Building Better Caregivers program nationally to caregivers of sick and wounded veterans from all eras, and to non-veteran caregivers. To date, more than 18,000 family caregivers have engaged with BBC.
Up to 30 family caregivers log into the online Building Better Caregivers program at their convenience, 2-3 times a week for approximately 2 hours/wk for 6-week training session (available on any device with a browser). Core content includes methods to improve caregiver’s health, dealing with emotions, managing stress, managing difficult care-partner behaviors, solving problems, setting goals, finding resources, communicating with health professionals, navigating healthcare systems, managing medications, making decisions and planning for the future.
